NITROX Specialty Course
NITROX PADI Enriched Air Diver course is the most popular PADI specialty diving course. Why? Because diving with enriched air gives you more no-decompression time, especially on successive dives. If staying down longer and being able to return earlier sounds attractive, then don’t hesitate to become an enriched air diver.
If you are PADI Open Water Diver who is at least 16 years old, you can sign up for the Enriched Air Diver Specialty course. Please note that in some regions the minimum age is 16.
PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty
You will learn why diving with air that has more oxygen content and less nitrogen gives you more bottom time, along with equipment considerations for enriched air. During a practice session, and two optional (or mandatory) dives:
- Comment oxygen exposure management .
- Practice analyze the oxygen content of your dive tank.
- You will adjust your dive computer to dive with nitrox enriched air.

If you have doubts about your computer meeting this feature, your PADI Instructor will tell you if it meets the manufacturer’s recommendations and local requirements. However, scuba tanks must meet oxygen standards. They must also be dedicated exclusively to use with enriched air.
You will practice the use of oxygen analyzers and special adhesives on the bottles. Your Portosub PADI staff will explain other equipment you may need to enjoy diving with enriched air.
